If you follow the motorcycle industry, then chances are you have heard of Walt Siegl Motorcycles. Walt Siegl has become one of the world’s premiere Ducati builders with his timeless designs and builds. His line of Leggero Ducati builds have gone viral over last decade on the internet. But wait, he has more up his sleeve. Having a true love affair with Italian design, he has start a new line called Bol D’Or using MV Agusta as the platform. The Walt Siegl MV Agusta Bol D’Or based on the Brutale 800 triple, is a true 80’s inspired endurance racer.
Walt’s true passion for design shows in all his builds, but mostly what you don’t see if the performance. His mix of design an performance in all his builds is breathe taking. The MV Agusta Brutale, already having great ergonomics and performance was a perfect starting point. The frame, unlike his Leggero builds, is kept completely stock. The only upgrade to the chassis was the addition of the aluminum swing-arm to reduce weight. On these models, his obsession with weight reduce as a more cost effective upgrade is seen everywhere.
To save even more weight, Walt used a few tricks in the body. Not only is all the bodywork stunning to look at it, everything from the fender to the tank to the fairing is made of Kevlar. The entire bodywork on this bike weighs just a mere 8 lbs which is a significant reduction from stock. the entire design of the bodywork is truly reminiscent of the 1980’s endurance racers. The lines of the front fairing flow perfect into the tank and tail sections.
In his quest for more performance, additional weight savings came from the wheels, exhaust and bolt on components. The wheels are a set of lightweight Magnesium wheels which drastically reduces the rotation mass, resulting in more rear wheel hp. His theory is that weight reduction can create better performance gains then more costly engine modification. The exhaust is a full titanium SC Project system and a flashed ECM to help produce more hp gains. Other little bits on the bike such as the rearsets, are all one off designs machined out of lightweight billet aluminum.
We could go on for days talking about and starring at his bikes. I am always looking forward to see what he will build next. Using 2 of the most beautiful bikes on the market, he has created stunning machines that you can have build. Be sure to go check out his website, but watch out as you might be commissioning him to build you one soon.
